Kirsty Morris
Kirsty left school and started 6th Form College. After a few months she realised that further education was not for her and felt she would learn better on an Apprenticeship scheme.
After leaving college, via Connexions, and with the help of Ultra Training Kirsty started an Administration Apprenticeship within a local office of a national building firm. During this time she achieved her apprenticeship qualification and was due to progress onto an advanced qualification.
However, due to harassment from one of her work colleagues, which was dealt with by the management, the aftermath caused her some friction and intimidation and it was suggested that she leave the Company. During the three months she was without a job she contacted numerous employers to try to find an apprenticeship training placement. Kirsty was becoming very disillusioned with apprenticeships and was prepared to take any job, even without training. She was advised that a vacancy had arisen at Ultra and in spite of my adverse feelings applied for the vacancy. Her interview was successful and she started working for the company in May 2008.
Kirsty has since achieved an Advanced Apprenticeship in Administration, Units of ITQ, Equal Opportunities Certificate and Health and Safety Certificates. She is now working on a Customer Service qualification. After the problems with her first apprenticeship placement, and the fact that she was without a job for a period of time, her confidence and self esteem was at a very low ebb. Since being employed by Ultra my confidence has been boosted and the support she got from my assessor and colleagues in the workplace has given her the determination to keep on achieving.
Being designated as the e-portfolio champion for the company has also helped her overcome any previous embarrassment she may have had communicating with people.
