Jamie-Leigh Hazell
Jamie-Leigh left Treviglas Community College in June 2000 to start working full time in the designer clothing shop in which she had been working as a part-time Saturday and holiday assistant.
I worked for this company for approximately two years and at the same time was also working part-time in hospitality.
After applying for a position in the County Council Offices she was taken on as an apprenticeship trainee in the Corporate Personal department and worked in this section for a year. She then secured a full-time position in the Education Section (Children and Young families) and worked there for a period of 7 months. She transferred to a position in the Chief Executives Department as a support assistant and was promoted to her present position as Finance and Administration Officer. This section is the hub of the County Council as it deals with all other sections and she has worked there for the past 4 years.
During her time working in the Council Offices she has achieved NVQ Administration Levels 2 and 3, Advanced Diploma in Business Administration, RSA Typing and Audio Levels 2 and 3 and Application of Number and Communication Key Skills at Level 2. Jamie-Leigh has recently registered to start a Foundation Degree in Business Studies and will start in September 2008 but prior to this she would like to complete the Assessors Award.
Numeracy was one of Jamie-Leigh’s weakest subjects at school and as this was a requisite for the Apprenticeship framework she required a great deal of support from her assessor to enable her to achieve this Level 2 qualification. Gaining the qualification has helped enormously in her present finance position. Apprenticeship training has given Jamie-Leigh the skills and confidence to work in the three departments in the County Council and gain an insight into how the council runs.
