Jade Johnson

Jade left Cape Cornwall School with average GCSE grades and started a Travel and Tourism course at college.  After leaving college she worked as a Receptionist but was unhappy with the work.

Whilst making decisions on what career path she should follow she started working as care assistant in 2006 at Trevaylor Manor Care Home, working as part of a large care tam.  NVQ Level 2 in care was a requirement of her employment and she started the Apprenticeship training scheme.  Jade was lacking confidence in her own abilities at the beginning of her training but with the support and guidance of her assessor, employer and work colleagues she gained confidence and became very motivated.  It was during this time that she decided that she would like to follow a career in nursing.

Jade achieved the apprenticeship qualification along with certificates in First Aid, Basic Food Hygiene and Manual Handling.

She applied for a place at university to study Adult Nursing but required a Level 2 Certificate in Numeracy.  Jade achieved this after Ultra again gave her the opportunity and support.  Jade started the course a Bournemouth university in September 2007.

Jade said that because of apprenticeship training she has achieved much more confidence and self-esteem and the fact that she has had to move away from home is also a big achievement for her.
