Amanda Frost
After leaving school in 1980, with GCSE grades D, Amanda started working in a family takeaway business serving customers and preparing food.
After her three children started full-time education she decided she would like a career in hairdressing but bringing them up as a single parent she was limited to the hours she could work. To learning new skills, Clippy’s salon, in Bodmin, gave her the opportunity and offered her 16 hours a week. She moved to Aruba Blu Salon and started NVQ 2 Hairdressing training with Ultra on the Free to Learn scheme.
After moving to Newquay, she found travelling to Bodmin difficult and Yoshimi Salon in Newquay offered her part-time work and she also worked voluntary to better her skills. With the fantastic help of her managers at Yoshimi and her Ultra assessor she was able to achieve her NVQ 2 Hairdressing qualification in 5 months.
She is still working part-time at Yoshimi improving on her skills and building up her clientele before progressing onto NVQ 3.
