Gemma Parker

After leaving Braunton School in 2002 achieving 11 ‘B’ and ‘C’ GCSE grades, Gemma continued in further education and achieved A levels in English, Maths and Law.  She also achieved an AS level in Biology.  During this time Gemma successfully completed the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award.

After leaving college Gemma spent sometime travelling and upon her return home took a full-time job at Croyde Bay Holiday Village.  She had already worked there on a part-time basis when she was attending college.  Some of her duties included serving drinks, cellar work, keeping the bar stocked, taking money, till work and the general housekeeping required to keep the bars up to the expected high quality standards.  The customer service part of the job also helped to increase her confidence and communication skills.

Gemma started on FMA in Bar Service in 2005 with Ultra and achieved this along with Health and Safety and Food Hygiene Certificates.  The skills she acquired in the work based learning situation helped Gemma to perform her job to a high standard.

During this time Gemma applied for a University place and is now a law student at the University of Lincoln.

Achieving her qualification has enabled Gemma to successfully be recruited in part-time bar work, an environment particularly sort after amongst the student population, thus giving Gemma some additional income whilst attending university.

Gemma’s long term goal is to gain a BA Honours degree in Law although she has not as yet decided on the area of the legal sector she would like to pursue.
