What is an e-portfolio ?

An electronic portfolio, (e-portfolio) is a storage area, where learners upload and submit their work and tutors and assessment personnel view and mark work.  Unlike traditional paper based methods, e-portfolios provide much richer and varied ways of recording and presenting evidence.  Learners can submit a range of file formats including work processed documents, spreadsheets, images, video and sound files.  The content of an e-portfolio can then be shared with others.  They can be searched and viewed from different perspectives and enable learners to access their work at any time.

Benefits for employers

  • The e-portfolio system has many benefits for employers:
  • The time taken to achieve the qualification can be greatly reduced
  • Less interruption by assessors as they can assess work remotely
  • Less written work for the learner: less time away from work
  • Learner's progress can be monitored by the employer
  • Files do not need to be removed to carry out verification: No lost files
  • Improved communication

If you are already using our E-Portfolio system you can download an Employers Guide.
