Garson House - Lynton
I opened Garson House three years ago and was fully aware of the NVQ training as I myself was an assessor in my previous work place.
The staff I was able to employ were unable to go to the college because of the the times of buses and school hours, it takes an hours bus journey plus a twenty minute walk to the college meaning that classes would have already commenced.
In addition the staff member would have to leave after lunch in order to be in time for end of school.
I knew that I needed to search for in house training and had been aware of Ultra Training in Cornwall. Contact was made and Ultra came to see me and the home. Our needs were discussed and I was given all the help I required and information for staff on what would be required of them and the commitment they would need to make to be able to study and complete their training.
This has been a good working partnership and our staff have completed NVQ 2 and 3 training. The assessor has always worked with us and been aware of staff duties and some of their commitments outside of work which has had an influence on work time of getting work completed for her she has always encouraged and has been helpful.
It has now become a part of my interviewing procedure to ensure that the applicant has full knowledge of the in-house training of NVQ with Ultra and I encourage them to take it up.
Our residents are confident that the care they receive is of best quality because of the training the staff have received and are encouraging and delighted to hear of the progress made by the individuals.
I am confident to leave the home in the staffs care because they have proved they are competent and confident to deal with all matters when I and the deputy are away and our residents are also happy with the arrangements.
I would recommend Ultra Training to any other home because it has been a tremendous help for the home and staff employed to gain accredited training whilst in house.
